Probably, all of us know and have seen this plant at least once, which secretes a burning yellow juice. However, not everyone knows what enormous powers this unassuming herb has. And it is used to treat a wide variety of skin diseases, diseases of the liver, gallbladder, nasopharynx and oral cavity, kidneys and urinary tract, gastrointestinal tract, metabolism, biliary tract, cancer, allergies, blood pressure. There is evidence of a very good use of celandine in the complex treatment of oncological diseases.
Isn’t it true that this miraculous herb is a real universal remedy?
If you decide to take advantage of the forces concentrated in the miraculous celandine, remember that treatment is more effective when combining a wide variety of remedies provided by both traditional and alternative medicine. The more serious the disease, the more necessary it is to monitor a good, attentive and professional doctor who will not only prescribe medications for you, but also give you advice on how best to use celandine. And the more serious the disease, the more important it is to use all the opportunities that nature opens up to us in a balanced way.
Before starting treatment, do not forget to familiarize yourself with the contraindications for the use of celandine.
In addition, celandine is very poisonous. Its use in large doses can lead to poisoning. Therefore, be careful not to overdo it, because instead of benefits, celandine can cause harm, cause another unnecessary blow to the body, which is already exhausted by the disease.
Contraindications and side effects of celandine
Celandine is very poisonous!
For this reason, celandine should be used very carefully, applied in small quantities or in combination with other plants. Celandine causes irritation and inflammation of the digestive tract, lowers blood pressure. Poisoning manifests itself in the form of extreme thirst, heaviness in the head and stomach, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, sometimes fainting and even hallucinations occur. This is because celandine juice contains a large amount of alkaloids.
If poisoning does occur, you should immediately stop taking celandine, rinse your stomach thoroughly and go to the hospital.
Celandine is best not used in the treatment of young children, as well as pregnant and lactating women.
Due to its pronounced ability to cause seizures, celandine is not recommended for people suffering from epilepsy. It is not recommended to use celandine preparations for people suffering from serious mental disorders (psychoses). Contraindications are also bronchial asthma, angina pectoris, decompensation of cardiac activity of I – II degrees, neurological diseases.
Celandine juice should be avoided if it can get on damaged areas of the skin. In such cases, it causes severe inflammation.
When taking celandine inside, constipation may occur, as well as dysbiosis. The reason for this is a violation of the intestinal microflora. To get rid of them, use a proven remedy: take warm milk, dissolve butter in it (at the rate of 30 g of butter per 300 ml of milk) and make an enema. It is advisable to lie down so that the pelvis is higher than the head. It is enough to do such an enema once a day for 2 to 5 days (as long as it takes) to completely get rid of the problem.
In some Russian dialects, it is called a podtynnik – due to the fact that celandine often grows near the fence, that is, “under the back”. Sometimes celandine is called a “nutcracker” because when the pod opens, a loud sound is heard. There is another name – “yellow milkweed”: celandine, like milkweed, secretes juice, but only this juice is yellow. Celandine has received a lot of names due to its wonderful medicinal properties. He was called “jaundice” (because of his ability to treat jaundice), “warthog” (because of his ability to remove warts), “seer” (because of his ability to treat eyes). And also – “lichen grass”, “devil’s milk”, “gladushnik”, “bo-rodavkin grass”, “golden”, “cleaning grass”…
I think all these names once again confirm that a person has long noticed this medicinal plant. And this is true, since the ancient Greek author Theophrastus, who lived in the II century BC, mentioned that it was used to treat jaundice, liver tumors and constipation.
By the way, sorcerers and healers believe that, in addition to the healing effect, celandine, belonging to the element of fire, helps to get rid of the effects of dark forces coming from underground, and also helps a person to get himself out of prison or release an innocent person from custody. In addition, fresh celandine, which a person wears directly on the body, changing every three days, can relieve depression. Celandine is an excellent remedy that helps to establish peace; the ancients believed that a person who wears a bag of dried celandine on his body will live in harmony with everyone and win any court.
Since the end of the 16th century, celandine has been grown purposefully, not only as a medicinal product, but also as an ornamental plant. Grown “in captivity”, celandine looks more impressive than its wild counterpart, but it is not particularly superior in its medicinal qualities.
Infusion of celandine
Preparation of celandine infusion. Celandine is used in the form of an infusion because of its bactericidal action and its ability to delay the growth of certain fungi and even malignant tumors. This is primarily due to the fact that celandine contains a large number of alkaloids.
The infusion can be aqueous or alcoholic.
It is best to prepare an aqueous infusion of celandine as follows: take the amount of herbs prescribed by the recipe, pour boiling water and heat in a steam bath for 15 minutes. Then cool well, strain. Before filtering, it would be a good idea to let the product brew. It is quite possible to refuse a steam bath, simple boiling water is enough. But in this case, it is advisable to increase the infusion time. It is good to infuse celandine in a thermos.
Celandine infusion can also be prepared with vodka. To do this, take grass (fresh or dried), fill half a half-liter bottle or jar with it and pour vodka. Let it brew for two weeks. After that, the resulting tincture should be diluted at the rate of 150 ml of tincture per 350 ml of pure vodka. Take three times a day before meals. Remember that the tincture is very strong, so if you need to take it inside, start with the smallest dose (5-10 drops), gradually increasing it by 10 drops every week.
The difference between an aqueous infusion and an alcoholic one is that the aqueous one is much weaker. The main reason is that water dissolves only the salts of alkaloids, which are abundant in celandine, and alcohol – the alkaloids themselves. Therefore, the alcohol solution will be much stronger and more effective.
However, the water infusion has one – and an extremely important – advantage: it is less dangerous than an alcoholic infusion. So in the vast majority of cases, in order to avoid poisoning, the use of an aqueous infusion should be unequivocally recommended. And the use of alcohol infusion of celandine is justified only in cases where the possible harm is less than the benefit it can bring. Even with cancers, when a person is ready to use any means and, because of the criticality of the situation, it would seem that God himself ordered the use of alcoholic infusion, it would be useful to think about the general exhaustion of the body, for which any “blow” is dangerous.
Ointment with celandine
Celandine ointment is prepared on petroleum jelly, lanolin, pork or mutton fat. You can also use an ordinary baby cream as a base. To obtain the ointment, it is better to use either celandine juice or dried grass, which is pre-ground very well (preferably using a coffee grinder). The proportions in which the components are mixed depend on the specific case, the specific disease. However, the usual ratios are 1 part crushed grass and 2 parts ground mass. Fresh juice is mixed with the base in a 1:4 ratio.
To prevent the ointment from becoming moldy, carbolic acid (0.25%) is added to it.
Celandine treatment of skin diseases
When applying celandine externally, there is no special need to apply a bandage. Firstly, celandine juice is absorbed by the skin, and the bandage will deprive it of the medicinal substance, it will absorb it itself. Secondly, the thin film of juice that forms on the skin perfectly protects against the effects of microbes. Just do not wash off the film immediately, let it stay on your body for at least a few hours.
Pimples and blackheads
Pimples and acne can be treated with an aqueous tincture of celandine, which is prepared at the rate of: 1 tablespoon of dried herbs per 1.5 cups of water, then boiled for 5 minutes, infused for 6 hours and filtered. For treatment, lotions are made about 15 minutes before bedtime. As a rule, the result is noticeable after 5 days.
Sometimes it is recommended to lubricate the face with celandine juice, and then (after 15-20 minutes) wash it off. This method can cause an increase in the number of pimples. However, after the second or third time, they will definitely pass.
Burns
Burns (including sunburn) are also well treated with celandine, which proves to be an indispensable remedy in nature. To do this, celandine juice is applied to the burned area, they wait until it is absorbed into the skin, and it is applied again, then several more times. The more juice you apply, the more it will be absorbed into the skin, the more significant the effect will be. And remember that celandine is an excellent painkiller for topical use.
The same method can be used in winter for frostbite. But the bandage should be used if you go outside.
In the treatment of non-healing wounds and ulcers, as well as wounds whose microflora cannot be treated with antibiotics, the affected areas can be sprinkled with powder from dried celandine grass.
Abscesses and boils
Abscesses and boils are treated with whole celandine leaves or a slurry of them; if fresh celandine is not available, then any other forms can be used.
This method has proven itself well: rinse the leaves of the plant thoroughly, put them in boiling water for half a minute, cool, wrap them in gauze and apply them to the sore spot.
Herpes
Herpes is treated with celandine juice. The main thing here is to start treatment at the very first signs of the disease, that is, with tingling and tingling in the lip area. The place where the burning sensation is felt is lubricated with juice, ointment or alcohol tincture based on celandine. After a while, the procedure is repeated.
In the early stages of the disease, as well as during its course, it is recommended to use a mixture that is prepared from 1 teaspoon of celandine, 2 teaspoons of calendula oil and 2 drops of eucalyptus oil. This mixture is applied to the affected area 3 times a day.
Fungal skin diseases
Fungal skin diseases are recommended to be treated with celandine juice. To do this, the affected area is lubricated with juice, then, when the juice is absorbed and dried, the procedure is repeated. You need to do this 3-4 times. As a rule, the juice is absorbed within 5 minutes.
For the same purpose, an ointment is used, which is applied overnight for 5-10 days.
You can also prepare a mixture: 5 drops of celandine juice, 2 drops of calendula tincture, 2 drops of oregano juice, 3-4 tablespoons of boiled water.
The affected area should be lubricated with this mixture 2-3 times a day.
Finally, foot baths made from celandine infusion, which is prepared from 100 grams of herbs and 4 cups of boiling water, have proven themselves well. The herb is poured with boiling water, infused for 20 minutes and filtered. Before the procedure, the infusion is diluted with warm water (in a ratio of 1:1). The duration of the procedure is 15-25 minutes.
For a greater effect, celandine tincture is used on vodka, which is prepared from 1 part of the herb and 2 parts of the liquid. Insist it for 12 days and take 10 to 20 drops per day for a week.
Fungal diseases of nails
They are treated similarly to skin diseases.
Eczema
Acute eczema is recommended to be treated with baths of thick celandine infusion (10 g per 100 ml of water). The baths are used daily, for 15 minutes. The infusion should be pre–cooled to body temperature, that is, to 35-40 ° C.
For eczema, as well as for lichen, fungus, it is good to use celandine juice in combination with drinking the infusion. Use an infusion of the usual concentration (1 tablespoon per glass of boiling water) 2-3 times a day and lubricate the affected area with juice, just as in the case of a burn.
Tuberculosis of the skin. For its treatment, celandine juice or ointment from fresh leaves is used, which is prepared with lanolin or petroleum jelly.
Warts
Warts have long been treated by cauterizing them with celandine juice. For a faster healing rate, it is sometimes recommended to carefully peel off the dead part, doing so until the base of the wart is reached.
Cauterization with celandine juice is used in the treatment of cancer, pappil (including larynx).
Lupus
Lupus is a disease that causes damage to the skin, joints, internal organs, and even the central nervous system. It begins with the formation of erythema – redness of the skin, followed by the formation of scales. As a rule, erythema appears in the upper part of the body (on the face, shoulders, hands, ears). The immediate cause for the onset of lupus is burns, frostbite, or prolonged medication use.
- Lupus is treated locally with ointment. The ointment is made from grass powder based on petroleum jelly, lanolin or lard (in the ratio: 1 part powder and 3 parts petroleum jelly, lanolin or lard). The affected areas are lubricated with ointment 2-3 times a day for 7-10 days (sometimes a little longer).
In parallel, it is necessary to inject 1% nicotinic acid, as well as vitamins (B1, B6, B12 and C).
- You can prepare the following ointment: for 1 part of celandine, take 10 parts of pork fat. The fat is heated in a water bath and celandine juice is added to it. Stir well, cool and apply in the same way as in the previous recipe.
- In parallel with the treatment described above, you can also take an infusion, which is prepared as follows: pour 0.5 liters of boiling water into a tablespoon of herbs, insist for 12 hours, and filter. Take 0.5 cups 3 times a day.
Dandruff (oily seborrhea) is treated by rubbing an infusion of herbs into the scalp, prepared in the usual proportion (1 tablespoon per 200 ml of water).
Celandine also helps with psoriasis. At the first signs of the disease, traditional medicine advises using celandine juice, which is used 2 times a day to lubricate the affected skin areas for one and a half to two weeks. For the same purposes, you can use an ointment based on celandine.
If large areas of the skin are affected, it is advisable to use a decoction.
Celandine decoction is also used in the form of baths (they are most suitable for severe skin lesions). For such baths, the broth is prepared from 5 tablespoons per 3 liters of cold water. The raw materials are filled with water, brought to a boil, and then kept on low heat for 20 minutes. When the broth is ready, it is allowed to brew for about two hours and filtered.
The bath should be taken 15-20 minutes once a day for 12 days.
To prepare the infusion, you can use roots instead of grass. You need to chop 100 g of fresh roots, pour them with water (12 liters) and let it stand for 2 hours, then put on fire and boil for 30 minutes. Strain and pour into a bath with water having body temperature. The course of treatment is 12 days.
For psoriasis, external treatment can also be combined with ingestion of celandine tincture. The tincture is drunk 2 times a day 30 minutes before meals. The course duration is 10-12 days.
Dermatitis
Dermatitis is a skin disease that usually develops due to the fact that an irritating substance gets on the skin. The signs of this disease are redness, itching, swelling, and blisters that burst and bleed.
A decoction of celandine is used to reduce itching. To do this, take gauze, moisten it with a decoction and apply it to the affected area for 10 minutes.
For a greater effect, an infusion or decoction of celandine is mixed with honey (at the rate of: 3 tablespoons per 100 g of honey).
Finally, celandine juice can be used for the same purposes. However, it is not recommended to use it in its pure form, so before the procedure it is diluted with boiled water (2 parts of water are taken for 1 part of the juice).
Celandine juice helps to get rid of age spots. To do this, the stains are smeared with it twice a day for one to two weeks.
For the same purposes, you can also use celandine tincture on vodka, which is prepared at the rate of: 1 part of the herb to 5 parts of vodka. In this case, compresses are applied to the pigment spots for 10 days. The duration of one procedure is 15-20 minutes.
Remember that age spots can be a manifestation of a variety of, and sometimes very serious, pathological processes in the body: ovarian dysfunction, liver and adrenal diseases. Therefore, it is better to consult a dermatologist to get rid of them.
Seborrhea
Seborrhea is recommended to be treated with celandine infusion. To do this, take 2 teaspoons of herbs, pour a glass of boiling water and leave for 2-3 hours. After that, the infusion is filtered and rubbed into the scalp.
After that, the head should be tied with a cotton cloth and covered with polyethylene (or put on a rubber cap). After 15-20 minutes, the hair is washed with regular shampoo.
For dry seborrhea, it is enough to apply this remedy 1 time a week, for oily seborrhea – 5-7 times.

It is better to take whey from goat’s milk.
Pour sugar into a jar of whey, and then add celandine to the mixture in a small bag to which the load is attached. Add sour cream to the whey (this is necessary to increase the number of milk bacteria). Keep it for 2 weeks – after this period, the kvass is ready. After drinking from the jar, add water every evening and add a little sugar (at the rate of 1 teaspoon per glass of water). By morning, the kvass will be ready for consumption again.
Take this drink 50-100 mg twice a day 20-30 minutes before meals. It is advisable to use it in spring and autumn, including for prevention.
The secret of this kvass is that it produces very strong lactic acid bacteria that produce substances that can repair tissues and cleanse the body. After all, celandine kills weak bacteria. Did you know that wooden dishes used to be steamed with celandine so that the milk would not sour so quickly?

Celandine is believed to promote healing due to its ability to have a cauterizing effect on tissues. However, treatment is effective only if the polyps are located in the upper part of the colon.
Some time before the procedure, the stomach must be cleaned by making a regular enema.
If you have hemorrhoids, anal fissures, or similar diseases, you must first heal them.

And one more way. Depending on the weight of the patient, take from 15 to 60 g of green grass, carefully chop it and pour boiling water at the rate of: 1 part of grass per 10 parts of water. After cleansing the intestines with an enema (2-3 hours in advance), an infusion is administered with an enema, and the intestines are cleaned after 1 hour.
As a rule, 6 to 10 procedures are required, although their number can be increased to 20. However, remember that prolonged celandine treatment can cause serious harm.

Endometritis (inflammation of the uterine mucosa), which occurs as a result of infection, is treated with celandine infusion, which is prepared from 1 tablespoon of herbs and a glass of boiling water, infused for 2 hours, and then filtered. The infusion should be drunk 3 times a day 30 minutes before meals. The course of treatment is 1 to 1.5 weeks, a single dose is 0.25 cups.
However, it must be remembered that the treatment of endometritis requires the supervision of a doctor, since there is a danger of the lesion spreading to the muscular layer of the uterus.
Cervical erosion
Cervical erosion is treated with baths with celandine infusion. The infusion is prepared as follows: take 1.5 tablespoons of herbs, pour it with 3 liters of boiling water, let it stand for 2-3 hours, then filter. Baths should be taken daily for 10 days; the duration of the procedure is 15-20 minutes.
Celandine treatment of nasopharyngeal and oral cavity diseases
Sinusitis
Sinusitis is an inflammation of the maxillary sinus that occurs with acute rhinitis or as a result of infectious diseases. Celandine can also be used in the complex treatment of sinusitis.
First of all, it is necessary to lubricate the nasal mucosa 2 times a day with ointment or oil prepared on the basis of celandine. A more radical remedy is nasal instillation.
2 times a day of celandine juice (2 drops per nostril). The course of treatment lasts 3-5 days.
Additionally, traditional healers recommend taking alcohol tincture of celandine 1 teaspoon 2-3 times a day 30 minutes before meals. The duration of treatment is 7 days. As an auxiliary remedy in the summer, compresses made from scalded with boiling water and cooled celandine leaves can also be used, which are applied to both sides of the nose for 10 to 15 minutes.
Adenoids
In the complex treatment of adenoids (that is, in combination with the treatment prescribed by a doctor), you can instill an infusion of celandine into your nose, prepared at the rate of 1 tablespoon per glass of boiling water. It should be dripped by 3 – 5 – 7 drops (the younger the child, the fewer drops). They drip twice a day, and each time three times with five-minute breaks.
Celandine juice is used in the treatment of severe inflammation of the adenoids, tonsillitis, sinusitis, and diseases of the frontal sinuses.
The following method of treating adenoids with celandine should be used only in severe cases when adenoids completely clog the nose. It is not difficult to determine this: if a child breathes through his mouth all the time and cannot breathe through his nose, then he has a severe degree; if he cannot breathe through his nose only at night when he occupies a horizontal position, then it is better to refrain from this method. An additional symptom in favor of this method is night snoring.
Now, about the method itself. During the flowering of celandine, take the entire plant (leaves, stems, flowers, roots), put everything through a meat grinder, filter through gauze folded in half, put everything in a jar and put it for fermentation in a place protected from direct sunlight.
When fermentation is over (this will happen in 2-3 weeks), filter thoroughly.
The resulting mixture should be dripped into the nose twice a day (lying down). If the child is less than 5 years old, then you should limit yourself to 2 drops in each nostril, an older child can drip from 3 to 5 drops. The duration of treatment is 2 weeks. Repeat the course after a 2-3–week break.
If a burning sensation occurs during instillation, it is not terrible, it passes quickly.
This method can be used independently, but it is advisable to use it in combination with other means: rinsing, nasal instillation with vasodilators, etc.
Polyps in the nose
Prepare an infusion of celandine, let it cool down a little. Inhale through the nose using a tube, rinsing the nasopharynx, do not swallow water, spit it out. You need to do 5 washes at a time. The procedure should preferably be performed several times a day.
Celandine has proven itself well in the treatment of periodontal disease. To do this, it is recommended to lubricate the inflamed gums with celandine juice for several days. You can also apply a swab soaked in celandine juice to your gums for 10 minutes once a day.
However, it is better to use another, more “gentle” method. To do this, take: tinctures of 30% celandine – 1 part, glycerin or olive oil, sunflower, corn – 2 parts.
Everything is mixed well, the mixture is applied to the gums and gum pockets for 15 minutes.
Gingivitis
For the treatment and prevention of gingivitis, it is recommended to rinse your mouth with celandine decoction after morning brushing, as well as massage your gums with oil based on it.
The following collection helps with bleeding gums: celandine herb – 1 part, calendula herb – 1 part.
An infusion is prepared from the mixture at the rate of: 1 teaspoon of the mixture per glass of boiling water. The infusion is allowed to stand for 4 hours, strain. Rinse your mouth 2 times a day for a week.
Celandine helps to relieve toothache. To do this, take gauze, moisten it with a warm (almost hot) infusion or decoction of celandine, and then apply it to the cheek for 5 minutes. The procedure is repeated every 30 minutes until relief occurs. In addition, after the compress, rinse your mouth with warm water, to which a small amount of salt and a few drops of celandine tincture and calendula tincture are added.
The gum of a sore tooth can be rubbed with celandine oil, and also crushed leaves of the plant can be applied to the base of the diseased tooth.
Celandine treatment of oncological diseases
Celandine has proven itself to be a cancer cell killer. In addition, celandine, taken orally, has a noticeable analgesic effect.
In the treatment of cancer, it is advisable to use both aqueous and alcoholic infusion of celandine, that is, to use them in combination, since in this case the patient receives the full range of positive effects that celandine can have. In this case, you should start with an aqueous tincture, which is less dangerous to the body.
According to people’s experience, we can recommend such an aqueous tincture: take fresh celandine herb, fill 1/3 of a half-liter jar with it and pour boiling water over everything. Close the jar and let it stand, at least until it cools down, but you can do more, for several hours. This infusion should be taken three times a day, starting with small amounts and ending with 100 ml at a time.
Remember that it is not advisable to use celandine tincture all the time, it is advisable to alternate it with rest periods, take breaks every two weeks. During the rest period, replace celandine tincture with other remedies, for example, preparations of chaga, dandelion, plantain, viburnum, wormwood.
In addition, you can dilute the infusion of celandine with milk, which is especially effective for oncological diseases.
The following collection can be used to stop the spread of metastases. Take: celandine herbs – 1 part, nettle leaves – 1 part, calendula flowers – 1 part.
Pour 1 tablespoon of the collection with a glass of boiling water, insist. Take 2-3 times a day before meals. It is good to drink on an empty stomach in the morning, after the person has woken up.
If the cancer has affected the external tissues (skin, lips), use an ointment made from celandine juice and pork or mutton fat, taken in equal parts. The course of treatment is 1 month.
Skin cancer
Tumors on the skin can also be washed with a decoction made from celandine grass and chamomile flowers taken in equal parts. To do this, take 3 tablespoons of the mixture, pour 2 cups of water, bring to a boil and simmer for 10-15 minutes. Then the broth is infused for 2-3 hours, filtered. Rinsing should be carried out within 3 weeks.
Cancer of the female genital organs
Tumors of the female genital organs are treated by ingesting alcohol tincture of celandine 3-4 times a day 15-20 minutes before meals. A single dose is 1/2 teaspoon. The duration of this stage of treatment is 3 weeks.
