Tansy – medicinal properties

With a huge number of diseases, medicines from this plant can be used. It has extensive medicinal properties: diaphoretic, antiseptic, antispasmodic, anthelmintic, antitumor and anti-inflammatory. Its choleretic effect is used in gastrointestinal diseases, slows down the rhythm of the heart.

With the help of the components of this plant, ulcers are healed, roundworms (roundworms) are removed. A clear improvement is observed in patients with kidney stone disease, migraines, epilepsy, skin diseases, including infectious (scabies), dislocations and open wounds. This tonic and stimulant increases blood pressure, increases the tone of the gastrointestinal tract. Tansy essential oil has the property of stimulating the nervous system.

If tansy is used for experimental hepatitis, it can reduce the amount of mucus accumulated in the bile. In addition to all this, the plant is able to tone the muscles of the gastrointestinal tract, as well as enhance its secretion. According to the results of experiments on animals, an infusion of tansy flowers has a positive effect on the work of the heart, namely, it increases the amplitude of heart contractions, increases blood pressure, slows down the rhythm of the heart. The essential oil contained in the leaves is a good remedy against worms and an antimicrobial drug, but do not forget that it is toxic.

Some authors believe that treatment with an infusion of tansy baskets promotes scarring of duodenal and stomach ulcers. To do this, the infusion should be applied 70-100 ml 2-3 times a day.
Preparations from tansy are also used as a choleretic. Such properties of the herb are due to the presence of flavonoids in it. Tansy is also widely used in folk medicine. The aboveground part of the plant is used for treatment, while enterobiosis, hypacid gastritis, hepatitis, colitis, ascariasis, cholecystitis, hypotonic diseases, and nervous excitement are treated. Tansy compresses are used for gout, as well as for festering and long-lasting wounds. As mentioned earlier, tansy is popularly used to get rid of roundworms and pinworms.

The juice obtained from tansy is used for various ailments, such as, for example, intoxication after tuberculosis, fever, as well as in the treatment of epilepsy, headaches, painful or excessive menstruation, ulcers, joint pain, rheumatism, colds. The juice also has a hypnotic effect.

If you want to make a decoction from this plant, then it should be done like this: pour 2 tablespoons of dry tansy with half a liter of water, then cook over low heat for about 10 minutes. The resulting broth is infused for about an hour, then consumed 1/2–1/3 cup 3 times a day half an hour before meals.

In the treatment of rheumatism, tansy wine is usually used, it is prepared as follows: 50 g of the inflorescences of the plant are poured with one bottle of muscat wine. It should be infused for 8 days, then consumed 30-40 grams after meals.

To get rid of roundworms and pinworms, use the following recipe: pour 250 ml of water over 1 tablespoon of crushed tansy flowers, bitter wormwood and chamomile, bring to a boil, cool, add a crushed garlic clove, and leave for three hours. The broth is filtered and applied in the form of microclysters. The procedure should be performed at night, and after the enema, you should not get up for 40 minutes.

Tansy – contraindications

Since this medicinal plant has a slightly poisonous effect, it cannot be used in large quantities. It can cause uterine contractions during pregnancy and premature birth or abortion. Do not give drugs with tansy to young children.
