What is Himalayan Yoga?

Himalayan Yoga (True Yoga, i.e. Yoga leading to the Knowledge of Truth, which is called Himalayan Yoga outside India) is one of the original systems of practice that has preserved its integrity to this day.Wisdom and Knowledge were passed down the line of Teachers from Master to disciple, thanks to which it was possible to preserve continuity and bring the art of Samadhi to our days. Nowadays, the teachings of Himalayan Yoga are transmitted by Mahayog Somnath Giri ji, known as Pilot Baba ji.

Pilot Baba Ji’s teacher was Hari Baba ji. The teacher of Hari Baba Ji (Hariharananda Giri Maharaj) was the Avatar of Baba Ji (Ramavatar Giri Ji Maharaj). Both of them were Samadhists and very well-known yogis among sadhus and ordinary practitioners. Avatar Baba Ji spent 12 years in Juna Akhara in a very responsible position, and a small camp is still being created in His name on every Kumbha Mela. It is significant and especially respected in India that even during his lifetime, Pilot Baba ji found the Dada Guru (guru of his teacher) Avatar Baba ji.

Himalayan yoga includes all the Knowledge that, over time and due to various circumstances, has been divided by mankind into various types of yoga. Samadhi yoga is considered to be the main knowledge – methods of realizing and knowing One’s True Essence. The practice can be divided into several blocks.:

  • ashtanga yoga – harmonizing, cleansing and healing the body;
  • kriya yoga, yoga that uses a variety of techniques to achieve Samadhi; purifying the mind, prana and body;
  • Dhyana yoga is a meditative technique for calming the Mind and moving to a state of Samadhi;
  • samadhi yoga is a method of realizing and cognizing One’s True Essence, one’s Soul, as a part of the Universal Soul, or the Holy Spirit.
  • other types of yoga.

In the course of practice, the student receives a number of dikshas, starting with the Guru-diksha. This is the first diksha that is given to a student, during which he receives initiation and a Guru-Mantra. The realization of the disciple is hidden in the mantra, it contains all levels of consciousness and enlightenment. Then there are: Sanskara-diksa, Sankalpa-diksa and Samadhi-diksa. There is also a diksha for those taking sannyasa.

Sanskara-diksa – leads beyond attachment of the body, attachment of the mind and attachment of desires. There is a purification or change of the student’s sanskaras or karma.

Sankalpa-diksha is working with a person’s intention. After that, his intent becomes more powerful.

Samadhi-diksha – thanks to her, the student gets the opportunity to go beyond the mind and move to a transcendental transition or beyond the apparent reality, where the Truth can be known in Its pure unaffected form.

Sannyasa is a process that helps to destroy the mental constructs of your mind. You can think for a long time about what the phrase “renounce the outside world” means, but only after being initiated into sannyasi will your mind be able to comprehend the true meaning of this. The very ceremony of receiving sannyasa helps to open the door to the world of Self-Realization and liberation from worldly attachments. It is believed that a person who has accepted Sannyasa may not receive other types of dikshas, since Sannyasa-Diksha includes everything.

Pilot Baba ji is one of the few Indian Teachers who gives two types of sannyasa: sannyasa as such is actually a renunciation of the mundane, where selfish feelings and mercantile interests flourish. And family sansa, where you don’t have to renounce your loved ones. Moreover, if you become a true family sannyasi, you will give your relatives even more conscious love. Through you, they will have a chance to change themselves and change their lives. If you reach a state of divine love and begin to see the divine in all the people around you, you will become holy people in the world. Realization (knowledge of one’s True self) does not depend on the type of sannyasa.

If you have already received Guru Diksha and for some reason you cannot receive other types of dikshas, you should not worry: Guru ji, passing by, may touch you and you will receive everything you need.

What kind of practice do we do in our Himalayan Yoga classes? Practice begins after a little warm-up, and in the morning, Surya Namaskar is performed. Then the asanas are performed, either in the form of kriya or in separate blocks. The peculiarity of performing asanas in Himalayan yoga is the alternation of performed asanas with complete relaxation, mindfulness, observation: Pratyahara-Dharana-Dhyana. For us, asanas are a preparation for entering into Silence and Peace, so it is important to maintain a state of Awareness when performing them. We observe the body, we listen to what is happening inside it, we observe the mind, we embark on an inner journey, we become an Observer. In some cases, during asanas, we perform pranayama or concentration on the chakras, mantra-japa, etc. After asanas, or in a separate block, we perform pranayama. Then we naturally enter into Silence and Peace, and we have Dhyana (what is called a Pause in Qigong, and the Europeans – Meditation). Next is the path to Samadhi.

Himalayan yoga is an accessible method for modern people that heals the body, mind and soul. All exercises are simple, their complexity varies easily, so this yoga is accessible even to beginners. The essence of Himalayan yoga is the practice of Mindfulness plus special techniques that allow you to control the mind and body, leading the practitioner to Peace and Quiet. This will culminate in deep meditations that will lead us to Samadhi, a state in which we can perceive all the Beauty and Divinity hidden within us.
By practicing Himalayan Yoga daily, you will gain good physical and mental health, experience the harmony of the universe and be filled with the Divine light of love and Goodness, experience moments of Ananda (Bliss) and want to share Love with others.

Through the practice of Himalayan Yoga, Pilot Baba ji leads his students to a state of Samadhi and Realization, along the path that He himself has traveled. His teachings and some of his techniques are not new to this world, they have long been known to Himalayan masters. There are also secret methods. But the most important thing is the presence of Guru ji himself as the bearer of Wisdom and Realization. It is also remarkable to have students who have made significant progress in yogic sadhana and are able to achieve the state of Samadhi. These are Japanese Yoga Mata Keiko Aikawa, who became the first foreigner to be awarded the honorary title of Mahamandaleshwar Jun Akhara, Mangal Giri Ji Maharaj, Chetna Mata, Shraddha Mata and Sri Mata from India.

According to Pilot Baba ji, Ukraine and Russia are rich in future Craftsmen. Even now, there are great souls among the Ukrainian and Russian teachers of Himalayan yoga who have the Blessing of Mahayoga Pilot Baba ji and carry the Wisdom and Knowledge of Himalayan Masters in our native language.
