One day, my student Nandita gave me a couple of bottles of linseed oil. At that time, I still didn’t know how useful it was, so I decided to specifically touch on this topic a little.:

About the fly in the ointment, or the harm of linseed oil
This product is very capricious, omega acids tend to oxidize quickly, resulting in the formation of many free radicals that have a negative effect on the body. To prevent this from happening, linseed oil should not be heated or added to hot food. It is better to use another vegetable oil for frying and stewing.
Flax seed oil can be used in salads, added to cottage cheese, mixed with sour cream or other ingredients for sauces.
For medicinal purposes, it is taken twice a day, one tablespoon an hour before meals. The duration of admission is 3-4 months.
Even such a useful product has contraindications: cholecystitis, pancreatitis, peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum, cholelithiasis.
How to choose linseed oil
- Linseed oil is afraid of light, it spoils from exposure to direct and indirect sunlight, so you only need to choose the product in an opaque container — a darkened glass or plastic bottle.
- Pay attention to the production time, even if it says that the oil can be stored for a year, it is better to buy a product made 1-2 months ago.
- Linseed oil can be in its pure form or with additives of selenium, chromium, silicon.
These minerals protect the product from premature oxidation due to their antioxidant properties.”
